Youths will miss meals to raise world hunger awareness

Members of the youth group at The Church of the Epiphany (Episcopal) will host a “30 Hour Famine” on Fri. and Sat., Feb. 26 to 27 to raise funds and increase awareness in the fight against world hunger.

Funds raised will go to World Vision, originator of the 30 Hour Famine as an international youth movement to combat hunger.

The Epiphany youth group participants and supervising adults will go without food for 30 hours. During that time, they will play tribal games to enhance their understanding of the daily lives of children in Africa.

The participants will also make blankets for the My Stuff Bags Foundation. The event will conclude with the Breaking of the Fast, when participants’ families will join their children in a meal of reflection.

The event was organized by youth group members Alice James, Jack Thedinga, Shaida Primm, Adrian Gould, Shannon Carroll and Dakota Jones. Adult event leaders are the Rev. Melissa McCarthy, church vicar, and Tim and Susan Halligan.

For more information, call McCarthy at (818) 991-4797, ext. 24 or go to www.tcote.org. The church is at 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.
