Youth play to spin its magic

Young Artists Ensemble journeys to the barnyard for “Charlotte’s Web,” a heartwarming play about a smart spider who befriends a pig.

The production, based on the classic book by E.B. White, will be performed May 4 through 20 at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The play recounts the beloved story of a little girl who is given a piglet, which she names Wilbur, to raise as a pet. As Wilbur grows, he becomes too costly for the farmers’ daughter to keep and is sold to her uncle.

Wilbur has trouble making friends with the other animals on this new farm, until he meets Charlotte, a smart and caring spider, who becomes his savior and most loyal friend.

Tickets are $19 for adults and $16 for children, students and seniors.
