Youth festival coming on Saturday





The second annual "Our Community Celebrates Youth," a health and safety festival geared towards children and parents, will be presented by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Kiwanis Club of Calabasas-Agoura and the Las Virgenes Optimist Club from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., April 3 at Juan Bautista de Anza Park, 3701 Lost Hills Road, Calabasas.


Actor Beau Bridges will serve as master of ceremonies, and live music will be provided by Riders of the Purple Sage, while the U.S. Territorial Marshalls/California will present Western entertainment and a stunt show. There will be pie-eating contests, hay rides, sack races, a deputy dunk tank (dunk a deputy sheriff without penalty) and an "Old Fashioned Country Picnic" featuring a barbecue and a free raffle.


Various health and service organizations will be participating. The special safety and health activities will include: FBI Internet Safety Program, Kid Print (free fingerprinting for children), L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad demonstration, K-9 Unit, Stranger Danger Program information and a display of equipment from the police and fire departments.


Admission is $5; cost of the barbecue ranges from $2 to $4. For more information, call (818) 878-1808, ext. 4653. Proceeds will benefit the Sheriff’s Star Camp Program and other youth programs sponsored by the Kiwanis and Optimists clubs.
