Youngsters learn about fire safety

SPEAKING ON THEIR LEVEL—A firefighter from Ventura County Station 36 demonstrates the proper way to exit a smoke-filled room during a fire safety demonstration at Red Oak Elementary School. As part of the program, Capt. Anthony Romero, Engineer Dan Horton and Firefighter Brian Nix taught kindergarteners how to “stop, drop and roll” if on fire. They also led the students on a tour of the fire truck and demonstrated the force of the fire hose by spraying water onto the field next to the school. To show their gratitude, the students recited a poem about firefighters and gave the men cookies and a big “thank you” card to take back to the fire station.
