Chris Severn, 12, a student at Medea Creek Middle School in Oak Park, recently returned from competing in the national finals of the Junior Golf Skills National Championship hosted by the Golf Channel in Orlando, Fla.


The competition took place at the Celebration Golf Course just outside Disney World on Sat., Nov. 2. Each of the 18 finalists from the U. S. and Canada were scored on two drives, three chips, and two putts in the competition. Chris won the putting competition by holing out both a 7-foot putt and a 20-foot putt to finish tied for 7th nationally.


Chris qualified by winning an event in Diamond Bar, where he defeated 47 competitors with a long drive of 283 yards to go with his good scores in the chipping and putting competition. He then survived 18 local event winners in the Desert Region Championship in San Diego.
