Twenty-year-old Carly Hartman of Calabasas is ready to take her business to the next level—at the flea market.

Hartman will debut her jewelry line 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun., Jan. 24 in the Artisan Alley at the Topanga Vintage Market at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

Harman began her business, Cora Wear, three years ago when she was a 17-year-old senior at Oaks Christian High School. She found for her business moniker by looking in a book of baby names.

“ I was inspired in high school by another student who had great success with a bikini line she started. I started selling my jewelry around school. It was really popular so I went to the bank and got all the paperwork done, started my web site, corawear.com, and began marketing,” said Hartman.

Hartman recently graduated from Moore College of Art and Design.

She has always been interested in business.

“When I was little I would ask for cash registers for presents, and gift cards so I could buy jewelry supplies, so I think I was always headed in this direction,” says Hartman.

She makes her jewelry by hand, and donates a portion of the profits to many causes such as her Free Her/Free Him line that supports ending human trafficking.

From the web site and through Etsy she sells internationally. She finds models by asking customers to send photos of themselves to be entered into the “Model Of The Month” feature on her web site.

But like many Gen Xers, Hartman is interested in the shop local, artisan movement, so she has hired her first employee to help her go offline and get into more local boutiques, art shows and flea markets.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my customers face to face and connecting in a new way,” she said.

To access the vintage market, enter the campus via Victory Boulevard at Mason Avenue. Admission is $3; kids under 12 are free.
