The Yerba Buena Elementary School PFA and school families recently took part in a Give Back Initiative that supports YB families for the holidays.

This year, the school partnered with an organization called Access Books Los Angeles, which provides quality books to public school and community libraries where the majority of students live at or below the poverty line.

Since 1999, with the help of volunteers, the organization has refurbished over 300 libraries and donated over 1.7 million books.

YB families gave over 800 books in recent weeks, which were collected in boxes on the Agoura Hills school campus.

Access picked up the books Dec. 18 and used them to build a library at a public elementary school in Compton.

The Yerba Buena PFA people responsible for coordinating the collection are: Maria Ryan, vice president operations, and fourth- and fifth-grade parent; Kelly Greene, community engagement, and second- and fourth-grade parent; and Rachel Asher, vice president marketing, and first- and fourth-grade parent.
