Yaroslavsky steps in, halts landfill expansion

GARBAGE IN—Many landfills across the country, such as this one, are reaching capacity.
A proposal by the Los Angeles County Sanitation District to allow for more dumping in the Calabasas Landfill has been scrapped for now.
The sanitation district recently completed a study that recommended that the county expand the landfill’s service area boundaries so more trucks from a broader region could use the landfill—and more money could be made.
