Works of local artists on display at Reyes Adobe

Wes Van Dyke to kick off series on Feb. 7

The Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council’s Art @ the Adobe program is launching a Solo Artist Series beginning in February.

Local talent will be featured in individual shows at the Reyes Adobe barn throughout the year. An artisan will also have a display of custom gift items for sale at each exhibit.

The new program is intended to support and promote the arts in the community.

Fine artist and Agoura Hills resident Wes Van Dyke will kick off the series with a showcase of his newest work, originals and prints. The opening reception will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Feb. 7 at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site, 5464 Reyes Adobe Road, Agoura Hills. Admission is free.

A participant at the Reyes Adobe Days art gallery, Van Dyke, 28, paints realistic landscapes and seascapes with acrylics and oils. His portfolio includes black-and-white portraits of celebrities and canines.

At age 23, Van Dyke was the featured artist at the 2008 Malibu Art Festival. He still paints on the easel his grandfather, actor Dick Van Dyke, gave him when he was 12. His father, actor Barry Van Dyke, also helped him master his talent.

Featured artisan for the first Solo Artist Series is Devin Krista, who will have on display custom, handmade jewelry made from sterling silver and 14-karat gold. The opening reception will be one week before Valentine’s Day. Part of the proceeds from all sales will support the 2014 Teen Art Show.
