Women’s club to hear about female pioneers

Anne Schroeder, a fifth generation Californian who grew up in Conejo Valley and attended Timber School until 1959, will speak on the pioneer women of the Conejo during the Westlake Women’s Club luncheon meeting beginning 10 a.m. Tues., Jan. 14 at Westlake Inn, 31943 Agoura Road, Westlake.

Schroeder’s latest book, "Branches on the Conejo," depicts a slower time when the Conejo Valley was a sparsely populated farm community with a lion farm. Some of the women she’ll profile in her talk became women of means and farmers in their own right. The Timber School has been recreated on the grounds of the Stagecoach Inn Museum in Newbury Park.
