Willow fifth grader is among nation’s most talented youth

Mark Brandon Haskell, 11, a fifth-grader at Willow Elementary School, Agoura Hills, has received an award for being among the highest scoring participants in the state of California in the mathematics and verbal talent search for fifth/sixth grades conducted by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY).


He participated in a national talent search conducted annually by CTY that identifies America’s top students in grades five through eight and provides programs, services and resources to help them make the most of their abilities.


Fifth- and sixth-graders who took the PLUS Academic Abilities Assessment and scored in the top 38 percent were recently honored at "Celebrations of Talent" ceremonies.


Other PLUS award recipients in grades fiveand six included Yevgeniy Alksnin of Agoura Hills, a student at Lindero Canyon Middle School; Christopher Bury of Thousand Oaks, a student at Pinecrest Middle School; and Adrienne Ford of Agoura Hills, a student at Viewpoint School.
