Westlake’s Cobleigh claims CIF swim crown




Hunter Cobleigh of Westlake High won the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke title at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Championships last weekend in Riverside.

Cobleigh, a senior and first-year varsity swimmer, finished the breaststroke race in a school-record 56.39 seconds.

The senior helped Westlake snag eighth place among all Div. 1 schools. Westlake’s girls placed 11th in Div. 1.

Michael Wen, a Warrior junior, was third in the boys’ 200 individual medley (1:51.24). Wen took seventh in the boys’ 100 breaststroke (57.79).

Cobleigh, Wen, David Puczkowski and Juson Hoo sealed third in the 200 medley relay (1:33.96).

Puczkowski, a freshman, was sixth in the 100 backstroke (50.93).

For the Warrior girls, Haley Preston and Savannah Miller enjoyed solid efforts.

Miller was fourth in the 100 freestyle (50.95) and eighth in the 50 freestyle (23.76).

Preston was sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.69). She won the 200 freestyle consolation finals (1:52.23).

Preston, Miller, Julia Farfan and Haley Crowley were fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.15) for Westlake.

Calabasas senior Natalie Stahl and junior Casey Rakauskas were ninth and 13th, respectively, in girls’ diving. The Coyote girls’ swim and dive team was honored for being a CIF-SS Academic champion at Angel Stadium on May 1.

In the Div. 2 meet, Oaks Christian’s Audrey Gosnell secured fourth in the girls’ 50 freestyle (24.54).

La Reina’s Abby Chopp was 10th in the girls’ 100 backstroke (1:01.33).

Viewpoint’s girls nearly claimed a Div. 4 title, but La Salle edged the Patriots, 249.5 points to 248.

The Viewpoint boys took third place in Div. 4.

For the Viewpoint girls, Kayla Mason was fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:22.74) and seventh in 200 freestyle (2:01.13); Zoe Pierrat was eighth in 50 freestyle (25.77); Natalie Brainin was 10th in 100 butterfly (1:04.4); and Allison Hoops was seventh in 200 IM (2:18.02) and ninth in 100 freestyle (56.54).

Viewpoint’s girls were third in 400 freestyle, fourth in 200 freestyle and seventh in the 200 medley relays.

For the Patriot boys, John Brody finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:42.35) and 100 freestyle (47.48). Daniel Shulman was eighth in the 100 butterfly (55.83), and Liam Gunn logged fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.07).
