Westlake initiates public pension reform

It’s one small step, but a meaningful one.
The Westlake Village City Council voted 4-1 last week to amend its pension package for employees. Starting next year, the city’s 10 active employees will be required to contribute 5.8 percent of their pay toward their California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) fund. They currently pay nothing. The city also imposed a new vesting period before employees receive their lifetime medical benefits.
