If your family has a history of heart disease, or if you’d like to learn more about how to keep from having a heart attack, then you might want to attend the free public cardiovascular health symposium beginning at 8 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 9, at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel.

The four-hour forum is being put together by Dr. Irving Kent Loh of the Ventura Heart Institute. Loh specializes in preventive cardiology.

"I have always believed that education and prevention is the way to manage heart disease," Loh said. "It’s for high-risk individuals. So, if they come from a family in which everyone is dropping dead from heart disease by the age of 50, then they should attend.

"It’s the footsteps behind you that tell you what you can probably expect with your own health in the future."

According to the discussion coordinator, the morning seminar will be a completely integrated program delving into all facets of heart disease prevention, detection and care.

"I’m going to open and close the seminar," Loh said. "And I’ve invited a number of great doctors to speak on their specialties."

Loh said that topics such as "What Heart Disease Really Is" will be discussed, followed by discussions of prevention and treatment therapies by other doctors, dieticians and others. There will be a question and answer period.

"Then, the close of the lecture will be about the future of the prevention of heart disease," Loh said. "Anyone attending should plan to stay the whole morning so that they can benefit from all the wonderful information we will be putting out."

Loh is asking that anyone interested in attending the symposium please call and register. Seating is limited; please call (805) 497-4424. However, walk-ins the day-of-event will be admitted.
