DETOUR—The on-ramp to the southbound 101 at Westlake Boulevard will be closed for a month starting on Monday.

Just as one busy freeway on-ramp is set to reopen after a 17-day closure, another is about to be closed for an extended period of time.

City of Thousand Oaks senior engineer Mike Tohidian said last week that Security Paving Co., the general contractor working to expand the 101-23 freeway interchange in Thousand Oaks, plans to close the southbound 101 Freeway on-ramp at Westlake Boulevard for one month beginning June 1.

“It needs to be realigned,” Tohidian said of the ramp, which serves thousands of drivers a day.

The on-ramp to the northbound 101 at Moorpark Road was reopened last week after being closed for more than two weeks so it could be realigned as well, according to a statement from Caltrans, which is overseeing construction.

The closure, which began May 4, was originally scheduled to end May 18, but cooler weather resulted in longer cure times for the concrete, extending the work schedule by three days, Caltrans said.

Tohidian said work at the Westlake on-ramp will take longer because the roadway is larger.

“There’s more work to do,” he said.

The closures are part of a two-year, $40-million expansion effort that seeks to ease congestion at the meeting point of two of Ventura County’s busiest freeways.
