Westlake election creates interest

The nomination period for two Westlake Village City Council seats opened on July 16, but so far only one candidate, Carol Kirschbaum, has filed the required papers to run in the November election.

The seats up for election belong to council members Philippa Klessig and Jim Bruno. Klessig said she would seek reelection, but Bruno has said he would not.

Besides Klessig, others who pulled papers but still have not officially filed are Ned Davis, Brad Halpern, Mark Adler and Theodore Corwin. Davis and Adler have participated in city activities, according to City Clerk Beth Schott. Corwin is a local physician.

A former risk manager, Kirschbaum served in a variety of volunteer roles in the community over the 20 years she has been a resident. She wants to serve on the council to “safeguard Westlake Village from overdevelopment, excessive traffic and projects that destroy our quality of life.”

The nomination period closes on Aug. 10. Each seat is for a four-year term with a $300 per month stipend. For more information, call (818) 7061613.
