Boy, that escalated quickly.

The CIF-Southern Section playoffs have been brutal for most local high school boys’ volleyball teams.

League champs at Oak Park, Newbury Park and Rio Mesa all lost first-round matches. Calabasas, which reached the Division 2 finals in 2017, was swept in a Division 1 opener.

Westlake is the lone survivor.

The Warriors went on the road to sweep Dos Pueblos 25-20, 27-25, 25-21 on Tuesday in Division 1 action. Westlake (20-9-1 overall) will play Huntington Beach (26-5) at 7 tonight on the road.

Oak Park, the Coastal Canyon League champion, lost to Alemany in a Division 1 sweep. Newbury Park, which seized the Marmonte League crown, dropped a four-set match to visiting Santa Barbara in Division 1. Calabasas fell to South Torrance, which has a 34-1 record. Rio Mesa, which shared the Pacific View League title with Oxnard, lost in four sets to Quartz Hill in Division 2.

BOYS’ GOLF

Several local boys’ golfers qualified for the individual finals.

Oak Park junior Austin Liu shot a 4-under-par 68 to take second place at the CIF-Southern Section Northern Regional individual tournament on May 7 at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai. Liu had the top score among all golfers in Acorn country.

Newbury Park’s Camden Sander ( 69), Camarillo’s Joey Zambri (69), Thousand Oaks’ Seldon Doyle (70), Agoura’s Nick Burns (71), Oaks Christian’s Jake Marek (71) and Cole White (72), and Oak Park’s Luke Basile (72) also qualified for the SCGA Regional Qualifying Tournament on May 17 in Santa Barbara.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Newbury Park, which won the Marmonte League title this spring, kicked off the Division 1 postseason against Palos Verdes on Wednesday at home.

Calabasas, Westlake and Coastal Canyon League champ Oak Park also played Division 1 openers.

Final scores were not available at this newspaper’s deadline.
