Wellness Community offers ongoing cancer support programs




The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura offers the following ongoing programs open to cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Orientation meetings: Learn about the Wellness Community Tuesdays, 7 p.m. and Fridays, 10 a.m. Open to cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Family and Friends Support Group, weekly: Open to family, friends and caregivers of cancer patients, but must first attend orientation.

Bereavement Group (Formerly Transition Group): For those who have experienced the loss of someone from cancer. Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. Call (805) 379-4777 prior to attending.

Brain Tumor Group: First Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Gynecological Cancer Group: First and third Monday, 6:30 p.m.

•Multiple Myeloma Support Group: Second Saturday, 11:30 a.m.•Prostate Cancer Networking Group: Third Saturday, 10:30 a.• m.

Prostate Cancer Support Group: Second and fourth Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.•Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Group: Third Thursday, 6:30 p.m.•Lung Cancer Networking Group: First and Third Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

Wellness Alumni Group: First and Third Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

Young Adult Support Group: First and Third Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Beginning Yoga: Wednesdays, 4:30 p.m.

Gentle Yoga and Relaxation: Wednesdays, 7 p.m. and Fridays, 10:30 a.m.

Open Sitting Meditation Group: First Monday, 7 p.m.

Relaxation and Guided Imagry: Fridays, noon.

Qigong, traditional Chinese exercise: Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Knitting Club: No experience necessary; Tuesdays, 1 p.m.

Quilting Club: No experience necessary; first and third Wednesday, 1 p.m.

Watercolor Art Class: No experience necessary; second and fourth Tuesday, 1 p.m.

Kids and Teens Circle: For children ages of 5 and up who have a parent or grandparent with cancer, Tuesdays, 4 p.m.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary last year, Wellness Community Valley/Ventura is an independently funded affi liate of the Cancer Support Community, serving more than 3,000 community members affected by cancer each year with programs in the San Fernando Valley and throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The Wellness Community is located at 530 Hampshire Road in the Westlake portion of Thousand Oaks.
