Waste roundup

Los Angeles County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous and electronic waste at a roundup event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun., June 10 at the Calabasas Landfill scale area, 5300 Lost Hills Road, Agoura.

The roundup will accept the following items: antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, car batteries, used motor oil, paint, pesticides, household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs.

In addition, home-generated sharps waste such as hypodermic needles, pen needles, syringes, lancets and intravenous needles will be accepted.

E-waste items including TVs, monitors, computers, VCRs, stereos and cellphones will also be allowed.

Because hazardous waste can pollute the environment, discarding these items in trash cans, sinks and storm drains is illegal.

The roundups help to promote public awareness of proper disposal practices of household hazardous and ewaste items and provide a free disposal option.

The program is presented by the Department of Public Works and the sanitation districts of Los Angeles County in cooperation with the community of unincorporated Agoura and the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Los Angeles, Malibu and Westlake Village.
