Walk to support Special Olympics

Local law enforcement in conjunction with Special Olympics Ventura County will host a day of family-friendly activities Sat., June 10 at Ventura Harbor Village on the Village Lawn, beginning with the Walk for the Torch at 9 a.m.

Walk for the Torch is a noncompetitive, sponsored stroll around Harbor Village and the surrounding Marinas. For each $250 in donations they raise, walkers will receive a complimentary ticket to the raffle for a 2006 Pontiac Solstice.

Following the walk, children and adults can meet Port Hueneme’s newest K-9 officer, Ike, visit law enforcement booths, listen to music and generally enjoy the festivities.

The third annual Fire Truck Pull begins at noon with teams of six men and/or women attempting to pull a 25-ton fire truck 25 feet in the best time.

The event is presented by the Ventura County Sheriff’s and Fire Departments. Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Ventura county and the Moorpark DARE program.
