Vote for Measure R

Thank you to Oak Park residents for overwhelmingly passing Measure C this past June. Your approval of this measure by 83 percent should not be overlooked, as this is highly indicative of the priority given to public education in Oak Park.

The quest to offer a quality education to our children remains a constant even as the community matures and the generation of children attending the Oak Park schools transitions. In light of inadequate state funding, local funding for our schools in all aspects is vital to provide our children with the education they deserve.

I encourage you to vote for Measure R, a bond that supports high quality education in Oak Park, by funding safe and properly maintained facilities for our students and teachers.

The only facilities bond passed by Oak Park was way back in 1977 when the district was formed. Today, our facilities are aging and in need of basic repairs. Without a current facilities bond, the funds are inadequate to ameliorate these remedial problems.

Voting in favor of Measure R can help ensure that our children will learn in an atmosphere conducive to the quality of education that we expect. If passed, Measure R funds will go solely to support its purpose and assurance of this is through a citizen oversight committee.

These repairs, renovations and rehabilitations are necessities, substantiated by an independent third party analysis and report, not wishful extravagances. If passed, Measure R may enable Oak Park to qualify for several million dollars in state matching funds that would otherwise be lost.

By passing Measure C, we assured one side of the spectrum needed to help secure the quality of education that we want for our children. However, these funds can only be utilized for school programs and teacher’s salaries.

For this reason, I urge you to support Measure R, which is exclusive to our school’s facilities, to address the needs of our district’s properties and complete the circle in our effort to provide the quality of education desired by our community.
