Volunteers take part in Day of Giving

LET’S ALL CHIP IN—More than 500 people participated in Oak Park’s 2014 Day of Giving on May 18, including Oak Park resident Steve Paden, above, holding a flowerpot, and to his left, Oak Park Unified School District Superintendent Tony Knight. Above right, Jayden Mehta, a kindergartner from Brookside Elementary School, with shovel in hand. In just over three hours, volunteers spruced up five school sites; painted more than 80 storm drains for the Ventura County Watershed Department; cleaned hiking trails for Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation; and helped a senior citizen fulfill her wish list of odd jobs around her home. Greg Epstein of Enhanced Landscape donated all the plants and soil for the beautification project. The Oak Park School District’s Community Outreach Committee sponsored the event.
