Volunteers needed for the trails





The 11th annual Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Trail Work Day, presented by the Conejo Open Space Trails Advisory Committee (COSTAC), will be Sat., Oct. 20 at the Conejo Community Center, Thousand Oaks (main picnic area; use entrance for the Botanic Garden off Gainsborough Road).


All participants will receive a free sack breakfast, map of the COSCA trail system and barbecue lunch following the trail work. The barbecue is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Andy Fox Charitable Community Fund.


Participants are urged to be at the staging area to board buses no later than 7:30 a.m. Trail work is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. An interpretive hike and trail cleanup in the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden adjacent to Conejo Community Park will be held for children and parents.


Rangers and qualified trail crew leaders will supervise all work crews. Long pants, long- sleeve shirt, hat, gloves, sturdy shoes, sunscreen and water are highly recommended. Tools will be provided, however, participants may bring loppers, Polaskis and McLeods.


Hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers are encouraged to show their support of the COSCA trail system. In Thousand Oaks there are about 14,000 acres of natural open space with more than 90 miles of trails.


Participants will be eligible to win a Trek mountain bike donated by Mike Geiger, owner of Westlake Cyclery, Westlake Village.
