Virus takes toll in community

Oak Park lost two of its first residents to the coronavirus last week. Jerry and Shirley Pirozzi, who moved to the community in 1967, died on the same day, Jan. 3. They had been married for 57 years.

Jerry Pirozzi, 85, was diagnosed with COVID-19—which has claimed the lives of more than 380,000 Americans—on Dec. 4 and was hospitalized five days later. Shirley Pirozzi, 85, tested positive for the virus on Dec. 14 and was hospitalized the next day.
