Ryan Marrinan of Calabasas, a senior at Viewpoint School in that city, recently won first place in the 2003 Shakespeare National Competition Essay Competition sponsored by the L.A. Branch of the English Speaking Union at the L.A. Public Library.
His winning essay, "Trials and Justice in King Lear" was praised for its "…evocative diction and full and compelling analysis of the theme," according to judges.
