Viewpoint School in Calabasas welcomed a group of Japanese student-athletes from Ritsumeikan Uji High School in Kyoto from Aug. 10 to 22 as part of a unique exchange initiative.

The Japanese youngsters attended U.S. culture classes at Viewpoint to improve their English language skills and spent time on the practice field to increase their knowledge of the sport they call American football.

The visit marks the eighth time the progressive Japanese high school has partnered with Texas-based organizer Global Football to bring its students to the United States but the first time Viewpoint School has hosted the initiative.

The students also saw the Cowboys-Rams NFL preseason game in Los Angeles, attended Cowboys training camp in Oxnard and visited with Japanese football star Gyo Shojima, who plays for UCLA, during their weeklong visit to the Southland.
