Up in smoke

I noted with interest Lori Andrew’s letter of July 20 in which she was thankful for the Calabasas smoking ban while having an ice cream at The Commons.

I have no quarrel with her sentiments, but I and more than a few other Calabasas residents remain unhappy with the Draconian scope of the law. It simply went way too far by criminalizing law-abiding citizens with a misdemeanor for what should be no more than an infraction. Now the council wants to make the law even more intrusive.

Mr. Groveman hung his political hat on that awful law and the voters soundly rejected him. I hope the Groveman sycophants on our council will take note, as well as the voters when it comes time for them to choose council members again.

All we want is a fair and reasonable smoking law that takes into account the civil liberties of all the Calabasas residents. Jerry Cutler Calabasas
