The term “democracy” comes from two Greek words: “demos” (the people) and “kratia” (power or authority). So, of course, democracy is a form of government that gives power to the people. (USHistory.org).
Apparently the LVUSD has forgotten that we live in a democracy. They have forgotten that they are elected representatives and need to hear the voice of the people. Instead, they railroad an eight-foot-high fence around White Oak Elementary School in the middle of First Neighborhood.
According to The Acorn, Superintendent Dan Stepenosky said the district is putting together a committee of representatives from the community, parents and law enforcement. However, this committee is being organized after the board has awarded a contract for fencing White Oak. This is not democracy—this is a con job.
LVUSD board members need to put the project on hold and listen to the community.
