Two tales about helpful people

My wife and I were recently driving home from Malibu on Kanan Road. Just past Mulholland Drive we had a flat tire.
I was starting to change the tire when a man and wife in a pickup truck stop and offered assistance.
The driver turned out to be a recently retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy. The gentleman’s name was Carl; I wish I had gotten his last name.
His experience as a deputy kicked in. He suggested that we move the car to level ground. He helped me change the tire.
I drove on but ...
