Scouts learn camping skills

Troop 485 of Westlake Village invites families and their sons to a get acquainted evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mon., March 11.

The boys will learn the best way to build a fire, and then reap the benefits of their efforts with a tasty Churro.

Any boy age 10 to 17 is welcome to join the troop whether or not he has previous scouting experience.

Troop 485 has a 30-year history in the Western Los Angeles County Council. The Scouts participate in camping, hiking, knots and wilderness preparedness.

The troop has produced nearly 100 Eagle Scouts, with almost 20 in the last eight years alone.
