After a strong push from Oak Park residents, the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District board of directors voted to save the 50-year-old ash tree in Mae Boyar Park.
The Sept. 3 decision to save the tree reverses a previous decision by the park board to cut it down.
The issue arose last fall when the district announced the tree represented a liability because its roots were pushing into the surface of a nearby playground.
