Track and field stars gear up for state meet

Multiple high school track and field stars from Acorn country qualified for the CIF State Championships this weekend in Clovis.

Kendall Mader, a Newbury Park senior, will compete in the girls’ shot put and discus events. This is her fourth trip to the state meet.

Thousand Oaks senior Alexa Coubal will also take part in the girls’ discus throw. Lancer teammate Rachel Craft, a junior, will make a run at girls’ pole vault gold.

Agoura sophomore Tara Davis qualified in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, triple jump and long jump.

Westlake sophomore Noelle Schiller will compete in the girls’ long jump. Warrior teammate Kyle Carrillo will throw in the boys’ discus event.

Oak Park sophomore Abby McPhillips will compete in the girls’ high jump.

Oaks Christian’s Lauren Rain Williams, a sophomore, qualified for the 100 and 200 sprints with teammate Schuyler Moore, a senior. Fellow senior Sarah Johnson will compete in the 400. The three also qualified for the 4×100 and the 4×400 girls’ relay events. Senior Miah Webb will join the trio in the 4×100 while junior Jordann Feinstein will take part in the 4×400. Lion junior Maya Hutchinson will compete in the high jump.

Calabasas sophomore Aliyah Woodall took 11th in the triple jump at the CIF-Southern Section Masters meet last weekend.

Rio Mesa junior Zaria Francis qualified for three events: 100, 200 and the 4×100 relay. She’ll join forces with juniors Subria Fontes, Patricia Leggett and sophomore Devyn Weisenberger in the girls’ relay. Senior Greg Vann leads the Spartans boys’ 4×400 relay team, which also features seniors Cameron Wrout, Jimmy FitzGerald and junior Isaiah Batis. Vann also qualified in the long jump.

Simi Valley senior Alexander Billing owns the fastest time of any other competitor in the boys’ 110 hurdles entering the state tournament.

Moorpark junior Michelle Magnani qualified in the girls’ 800 and 1,600 runs. She’ll only compete in the 800 at the state meet, however.
