Tour the water tank

Residents will have an opportunity to visit the site of the new 5-million-gallon water tank that’s being built next to the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District reservoir in Westlake Village.

Water district officials will lead an informational tour, allowing attendees to see how the project is progressing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sat., Aug. 9.

All LVMWD customers may register for the free tour and inspection.

“This event is for the whole community,” said LVMWD spokesperson Jeff Reinhardt. “We want people from Calabasas and Agoura to come also.”

Preregistration is required for the tour. Guests will also be able to tour the Westlake Filtration Plant next to the reservoir.

Free bus service will be available from the water district’s headquarters in Calabasas or along Three Springs Drive in Westlake Village. Private vehicles are not allowed at the reservoir site.

Despite earlier controversies about dynamite blasting and construction traffic, the project is advancing without any problems, Reinhardt said.

Blasting to prepare the site is complete.

District officials say the new tank and improvements to the nearby Las Virgenes Reservoir pumping and water filtration facility will serve the entire district and improve water delivery.

But some residents in Three Springs believe the water district failed to demonstrate a definite need for the $13-million tank, and some say construction noise, traffic and dust are affecting the quality of life for people who live near the tank site.

The water district and the City of Westlake Village are working with the Three Springs Homeowners Association to keep residents informed about the progress of construction.
