Time for change on

Calabasas council

The upcoming city of Calabasas council election, like so much of what happens in our area, affects all of us in the Las Virgenes Unified School District.

We write as individuals, although we are parent-faculty club presidents in Calabasas and Agoura Hills, respectively. We have experienced firsthand just how important cooperation is between all the district’s communities on matters of education. Only efforts representing the entire district are eligible for so much of the monies and programs out there. Without district-wide representation, the individual schools and cities of Las Virgenes Unified School District are precluded from obtaining many corporate and state funds crucial for the future of our children and their education.

After seeing the Feb. 2 meeting of the Calabasas City Council and subsequent candidates’ forums, it has become evident that there are members of the council who oppose such district-wide cooperation.

Three seats are open on the Calabasas City Council and we feel that this is a time for change. Jon Wolfson and Mary Sue Maurer embody the spirit of positive cooperation that the children of our district deserve. We urge you to give them your support on March 8 and remember that while it is one city’s election, one city alone can’t have the impact on education that we can all have together.
