Theme parks to host toy drives





KTLA-TV, UPS, Boys & Girls Club of Southern California and Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park will join forces for the annual "Toys for the Holidays" drive.


Six Flags will offer free admission to anyone bringing a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to the theme park on Sat. and Sun., Dec. 11 and 12. All toys collected will be distributed by UPS to thousands of children at more than 28 Boys & Girls Clubs in Southern California. The clubs "provide a safe haven and positive learning environment" for underprivileged children between ages 6 and 18.


The theme park is at the Magic Mountain Parkway exit off the Golden State Freeway in Valencia. Hours for the Toys for the Holidays free admission days are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In related news, NBC4 and Telemundo 52 have teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Knott’s Berry Farm and HOT 92 Jamz for a "Toys for Tots" drive at Knott’s on Sat. and Sun., Dec. 11 and 12. Guests bringing a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to Knott’s will be admitted free.


The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. At 7 p.m. Sunday, rhythm and blues singer/songwriter Brian McKnight will appear in a free concert on Knott’s Calico Square Stage sponsored by HOT 92 Jamz.


The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will coordinate the distribution of the collected toys to disadvantaged children through local social service agencies. Reserve members will be on hand in full dress to collect the donated toys and guide guests through military vehicles on display. Snoopy and other Knott’s Berry Farm characters will also be present to greet holiday gift donors and pose for photos.
