The rules
are not oppressive

Regarding the letter by Florence Amrany on Feb. 7, her complaints about the CC&Rs of Country Vistas III in Oak Park appear to be self-serving, and in my opinion and the opinion of most of my neighbors, unwarranted. She complains that the rules and regulations are too oppressive.

Specifically, she’s unhappy that habitual barking dogs aren’t allowed. If you happened to live next door to one, you’d understand why. She also stated that kids aren’t allowed to play outside. No, they just aren’t allowed to ride skateboards, rollerblades, scooters or bicycles through the complex for obvious reasons. The streets are narrow, with many turns and hills, and safety and liability is at issue.

This is an enclosed complex of duplex-type townhomes, with some single units, not a thoroughfare.

She also claims that cars aren’t allowed to park in the streets. There is guest parking in the streets and in designated areas. Because of the nature of the complex, and the narrow streets, owners are asked to park in their garages. This is consistent with most communities of this type.

She’s also worried that residents aren’t allowed to make noise. There are only standard rules against excessive noise, which most, if not all, communities have. Amrany is a homeowner who rents her unit out. It appears that in an effort to increase her tenant opportunities, she would like the rules relaxed (or done away with). As a homeowner who has owned and actually lived here since 1983, I can assure her that myself and most of my neighbors (who own and live here) are very happy with the CC&Rs as they are.

They are part of the reason that Country Vistas III is a beautiful and desired place to live.
