The American Red Cross of Red Cross launches summer safety classes

Greater Los Angeles is joining other local Red Cross chapters to bring safety training to families with fun, free and low-cost events that teach people how to save a life. According to Red Cross, "Anyone can be a hero and everyone should know how."

At events throughout the summer, a local hero will be honored for saving a life with his or her Red Cross skills. Other Super CPR sites will run at various locations through Sept. 6 and are only $5 with pre-registration. Official certification cards will be issued upon completion.

Splish Splash Family Fun Days will be held on July 12 and 13, with most sites running on July 13. Southland cities’ departments of parks and recreation provide Red Cross training in basic water safety to families on these days free of charge, while providing participants with a free swim.

Mini-presentations on safety topics, such as basic first aid, water safety and heat safety, will be offered at Raging Waters (June 29) in San Dimas and Castle Park (June 28) in Riverside.

Participants at these 30-minute presentations get into the parks for only $10. ABCs of a Safe Summer partners will also distribute 100,000 coupons for $5 off admission to either park.

Other sites are Wild Rivers in Irvine (June 21) and Soak City in Palm Springs (July 13-free admission).

The campaign is supported by an At-a-Glance series of safety tips on CPR, First Aid, Water Safety and Fire Safety. They are available free of charge at local American Red Cross chapters, at event locations or via PDF downloadable files by clicking on the ABCs of a Safe Summer logo at www.redcross-la.org.
