Thanks community

I would like to publicly thank all the wonderful people who showed their support in so many ways after I was sued by Brian Boudreau for writing the ballot argument against the Malibu Valley Inn, from the financial contributions for litigation costs, to fresh-picked garden tomatoes delivered to my door, to playing Mastermind with my kids while I was on the phone.

I would especially like to thank Steve Gambardella, attorney and resident of Calabasas, who stepped forward outside his area of personal injury expertise to lead the legal battle without any guarantee of when or if he will be paid for his services. Steve jumped into the fray the day before the first hearing and pulled an amazing amount of information together in less than a week. His patience, expertise, good humor and quick learning curve on land use and first amendment issues were a godsend.

A warm thank you also goes to Debbie Gambardella, who brought my plight to his attention, and his daughters who had to share their dad during some critical weekend and vacation hours.

But mostly I have to thank my kids for giving up their summer vacation, for doing the cooking and cleaning, for doing their math without needing to be told while I was scrambling for deadlines, for being excellent research assistants, for not complaining when I didn’t get them signed up for the classes they wanted to take and for making soup for me.

A ballot argument is an opinion statement and mine was heavily researched to bring information to voters that they might not otherwise have learned. I wrote the argument in the interest of bringing people the information about the project that they were not likely to hear in the presentations given by Mr. Boudreau.

Win or lose, it was inspiring to work with so many dedicated people. Mary Hubbard Calabasas
