Thankful for the sheriff’s patrols

In the past few months there have been a few letters in The Acorn complaining about the local law enforcement issuing tickets for speeding, failure to stop at intersections, and using a cellphone while driving.

We take for granted that we live in community which is extremely safe. It is safe because it is so actively protected by the sheriff ‘s deputies and CHP. On most days I pass two or three patrol cars on my sevenminute commute from Westlake Village to Agoura. That makes me feel good to know that those officers are deterring crime with their presence. Those same officers are simultaneously keeping the streets safe by issuing traffic tickets.

Speeding is a crime. Using a cellphone while driving is a crime. Failing to stop at a stop sign is a crime. People think these traffic violations are harmless until a bicyclist, pedestrian or another driver is seriously injured or killed.

The next time you see a sheriff’s deputy or CHP officer on patrol, be thankful that they are protecting you, your friends, your family and your children.
