Temple Etz Chaim sponsors Yeshiva





Temple Etz Chaim of Thousand Oaks will sponsor a Yeshiva for the High Holidays beginning with a Havdallah service at 8 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 8 led by Rabbi Richard Spiegel, spiritual leader of the Temple, and Hazzan Pablo Duek. The word "Yeshiva" comes from the word "to sit" in Hebrew, meaning "a seat of learning."


At 9:15 p.m., the following discussion groups will be offered:


"Learn to Sing the High Holiday Melodies," with Hazzan Pablo Duek; "Laugh a Little: Enjoy Some Good Humor," with Dr. John Keats; "Good Jewish Guilt: The High Holiday Confessional" with Leah Shechter; "The Challenges and Dangers of Government—Involvement in Faith-Based Charities," with Judge Bruce Einhorn; "Maimonides Teachings on Repentance," with Rabbi Moshe Rubinstein; Israeli dancing with Natalie Stern; "Learn How to Lift the Torah" with Carl Friedlander; and "The Blowing of the Shofar" with Dr. Ron Goldstein.


The first class will end at 10 p.m. and be repeated until 10:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. At 11 p.m., all are welcome to participate in the Selichot Service.


The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana 5762, will begin Monday evening, Sept. 17.
