Teen wins Horatio Alger prize

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Inc., a nonprofit educational organization, recently named 570 students from across the nation who will receive its 2019 Horatio Alger State Scholarship.
One of the winners is Calabasas resident Sophia Simms, who attends Agoura High School.
The annual scholarships recognize outstanding students, who, in the face of great personal adversity, have exhibited a commitment to pursue their dreams through higher education.
