Lindsay Wu, a high school student from Westlake Village, was recently awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship for 2017-18 by the U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Lindsay studied the Russian language in Russia for the summer. While in Russia, she received formal instruction and informal language practice as part of an immersion environment.
Lindsay is one of about 600 students selected from across the United States who received a scholarship to study Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian or Russian overseas this year.
Applications for 2018-19 NSLI-Y programs are available at www.nsliforyouth.org.
