Teen fire camp offered





The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) will presents its second annual "Fire Camp" program for youth ages 13 to 16 from July 7 to 11 at the Ventura County Fire Services’ Regional Training Center at Camarillo Airport.


Camp hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The cost is $25.


The program will allow youth to explore all aspects of the fire service. Attendees will also learn about career opportunities in the fire service and the preparation necessary to become a successful candidate for a position in one of the many disciplines within the fire service.


Each day will be a combination of academic learning and hands-on experience in a safe, fun-filled environment, according to the VCFD.


Specific topics to be covered include: fire department organization, fire equipment of all types, fire station routine and tour, structure fire and brush fire suppression strategy and tactics, air operations, emergency medical operations, dispatch services and fire prevention activities.


The week will conclude with a career day and graduation featuring a barbecue lunch.
