A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a burglary and vehicle theft that occurred last week in the area of Rosehedge Lane and Conifer Street in Oak Park.
On the morning of Aug. 27, deputies responded to a report that a burglar entered a home during the night through an unlocked door and took car keys and a wallet while the family was sleeping.
He returned the next night around 10 p.m. and stole the victim’s car, officers said.
The following morning, Aug. 28, the thief reportedly returned to the area in the stolen vehicle for unknown reasons. Detective Tim Lohman of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said the victim confronted the intruder, who ran off.
“Police show up, we search the area, take the K-9 out there,” Lohman said. “They track him to a house about three blocks away, but the suspect wasn’t located at that time.”
Deputies said they found evidence linking the teen to the crime. They arrested him and booked him into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center. Investigators discovered the suspect is wanted in Los Angeles County for two counts of residential burglary.
The teen appeared in court on Sept. 1.
