Talented kids sought for stage and screen

Broadway and television actress and renowned children’s drama coach Janet Adderley is bringing her musical theater program to local youth.

She is the owner of The Adderley School for the Performing Arts, which has schools in Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara.

Next month, Adderley will bring her children’s acting school to Westlake Village and Agoura Hills.

“The Adderley Method is about the child first,” the owner said. “First you find their individual voice, then their performance on stage and, above all, their confidence in life.”

Children ages 3 to 17 are taught in small age-appropriate classes where every student is guaranteed a lead role.

Adderley trained at Yale University and then starred on Broadway in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Starlight Express.” After touring with regional companies, she relocated to Hollywood to pursue television and film work. Her credits include the film “I Am Sam” and the TV series “Sweet Justice.”

She founded her acting school in 1996 to help her 8year-old daughter overcome shyness. The school grew from 14 students to more than 1,000.

Classes begin Jan. 24 on Saturdays in Westlake Village and on Sundays, Mondays and Thursday in Agoura Hills. For more information, call (805) 899-3680.
