T.O. Acorn earns CNPA recognition

The Thousand Oaks Acorn won two Certificates of Achievement in the California Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspapers Contest for 2004.

The Thousand Oaks Acorn won a Certificate of Achievement for general excellence for its Oct. 14, 21 and 28 editions last fall. Michael Coons, a former staff photographer, won recognition for a shot he took at the funeral of former President Ronald Reagan. It was published in the June 10, 2004 edition of the Thousand Oaks Acorn. Coons left the newspaper to return to college.

Both awards were won while John Loesing was editor. Loesing is now editor of The Acorn, a sister publication of the Thousand Oaks Acorn. It serves Calabasas and Hidden Hills through Agoura Hills and the city of Westlake Village, including Oak Park.

"We’re happy about the awards," said Jim Rule, publisher. "Our staff is committed to providing the best community newspapers that we can."

The Acorn Newspapers also produce separate editions for Moorpark and Simi Valley.
