State Assemblywoman Fran Pavley (D-Woodland Hills) presented her inaugural Sustainable41 Award on Fri., June 10 to the store manager of the Albertsons Supermarket at 26521 Agoura Road in Calabasas.

The award program recognizes businesses in the 41st Assembly District that incorporate environmental “sustainability” policies and practices in their operations.

Albertsons had set up a box for battery recycling inside their store. By making it convenient for their customers to properly dispose of batteries, the store ensures that the batteries will not end up in landfills where they might leak their acid and other toxins into the soil and groundwater.

“Businesses that are ‘doing the right thing’ deserve to be recognized and I very much look forward to learning what my other district businesses are doing to save resources and do business in healthier ways,” said Pavley, a resident of Agoura Hills.

Citizens who are aware of a company that has adopted environmentally-friendly practices into their businesses can e-mail those nominations to Assemblymember.Pavley @assembly.ca.gov, or drop a note to the district office at 6355 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Ste. 205, Woodland Hills, CA
