Summer camps offer fun in sun





Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is offering four summer day camps this year: Crosstown Kids Camp and Rancho Day Camp in Simi Valley and Fun Oaks Summer Day Camp and Fun Oaks Mini Camp in Oak Park.

Crosstown Camp, for children in kindergarten through third grade, is at Berylwood Park, 1955 Bridget Ave. Crafts, water play, sports, games and field trips are among the activities provided. On Wednesdays, campers meet at Rancho Simi Community Park for swimming.

Rancho Day Camp, for thirdthrough sixth-graders, is at Rancho Simi Community Park, 1765 Royal Ave. Campers swim, take field trips and participate in sports and games, crafts, music, drama and nature activities.

Fun Oaks Mini Camp, for children ages 3 to 5, is at Red Oaks Elementary School in the After School Club trailer, 4857 Rockfield St. The camp offers weekly themes, special events, barbecues, water activities, nature studies, sports and crafts.

Fun Oaks Summer Day Camp, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, is at Mae Boyar Park, 130 Kanan Road, and offers older campers field trips in addition to the same activities as the mini camp.

Children may be registered for any number of weeks and for twoto three-day or four- to five-day programs. Some locations offer half-day camps.

Field trips include outings to the beach, zoo, skating, theme and water parks, bowling, laser tag and the California Science Museum.

Camps are open 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 24 in Simi Valley and through Aug. 17 in Oak Park. Planned activities are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
