Gabriel Weingart of Agoura Hills was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children hosted by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Weingart attends Lindero Canyon Middle School.

Weingart was invited to the awards ceremony based on an exceptional performance on an above-grade-level test given to Talent Search participants.

Seventh and eighth graders took the college SAT or ACT. Fifth and sixth graders took the PLUS, a college entry exam scaled for younger students. High scores may qualify students for recognition, awards, special summer programs and distance education courses.

“In hosting these awards ceremonies, we want these bright children to have their day in the limelight for their academic talent

and to celebrate their abilities, just as we celebrate excellence in athletics or the performing arts,” said Lea Ybarra, the center’s executive director.

“Parents who make academics a first priority for their children and teachers who inspire their students to achieve their best create engaged young people who are wellprepared to lead and shape tomorrow’s world,” Ybarra said.

Two Oak Park elementary school students, Michael Ebert of Red Oak and Eden Weisman of Brookside, were also honored for theirscores in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth’s fifth and sixth grade division.

The two Oak Park students were invited toattend the June 13school board meeting at Oak Park Library to be recognized for their exceptionally high test scores.
