CULTURAL AWARENESS—Left, Agoura High School senior Jeff Su wears a dragon head and leads the Chinese New Year parade at the Agoura Hills Library on Monday. Other students, meanwhile, try to get a closer look at the colorful costume. Below, Oak Hills Elementary School third-grade student Andrew He, 8, performs a Tai Chi fan dance as part of the celebration. The Chinese New Year began Jan. 29, kicking off the year 4703 according to the ancient calendar which is based entirely on astronomical observations of the sun, moon and stars. This year is known as the Year of the Dog.
